Watch a small clip in the middle of Melissa's guided reading lesson with a group reading level C texts. Some important things to note:
* Melissa conducts some important pre-reading activities/discussions before children return to the text to read it at their own pace
* Melissa has each child read "independently" and at their own pace while she holds brief reading conferences with individual children. She gathers critical evidence about what students can and can't do--this informs current and future instruction. Notice that she doesn't do "popcorn" reading, as that would only allow 1 child to read at a time. She ensure 100% of her students are reading by allowing them to read at their own pace.
