Seems they're being a jerk for a reason. They hate Kaleb and his book, so they're being a jerk. They still have a reason. Not a very good one, as we both see, but that doesn't make it any less of a reason.

Just because two books are similar doesn't mean anything has been plagiarized. You wouldn't say Suzanne Collins plagiarized Battle Royal, would you?
Bran Hambric is a young boy who lives in an urban fantasy world and has magical powers himself. Sure, that's similar to Harry Potter. But I've read plenty of books that were published long before Harry Potter and had that same concept.
And why's it so hard for you to believe he's never read Harry Potter? It's not required reading.
