Speaking at the 2011 Maker Faire, Dirty Jobs host Mike Rowe recalls a memorable (for all the wrong reasons) visit to a San Francisco sewage treatment facility. Rowe, who vividly describes the dirty job, helped clean and replace a lift pump covered in human excrement.

-----

TechShop, the first membership-based DIY workshop and fabrication studio for makers, welcomes Mike Rowe to Maker Faire, the world's preeminent DIY festival.

Rowe, whose own website, mikeroweWORKS.com, was created as a "PR Campaign for Hard Work," dropped by Maker Faire for an impromptu chat with makers and fabricators from around the country.

"The only thing I make these days is a mess," joked the creator and Host of Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs. "But the TechShop idea is phenomenal, and Maker Faire sounds like TechShop on steroids. It'll be fun to hang out with some people who can still make things out of thin air. I'm a big fan." - Maker Faire Bay Area 2011

Mike Rowe has had more jobs than you. In fact, Mike has had more jobs than anyone. As the creator and executive producer of Discovery Channel's Emmy-nominated series Dirty Jobs With Mike Rowe, Mike has spent years traveling the country, working as an apprentice on more than 200 jobs that most people would go out of their way to avoid. From coal mining to roustabouting, maggot farming to sheep castrating, Mike has worked in just about every industry and filmed the show in almost every state, celebrating the hard-working Americans who make civilized life possible for the rest of us.

In addition to Dirty Jobs and his mikeroweWORKS endeavor, Mike is the voice of Deadliest Catch and the national spokesman for Ford Trucks. He has traveled extensively for Discovery Channel, hosting Shark Week in South Africa, where he field-tested a steel-mesh "shark-suit," and Egypt Week Live, where he opened and explored newly discovered tombs in the Valley of the Golden Mummies.
