Mark Gilston plays an old favorite English tune on mountain dulcimer. This tune was originally called College Hornpipe and dates back to the late 1700's. Pepy's diary mentions sailors dancing the hornpipe as a method of keeping fit on the seas. The tune became associated with Popeye when it was used for part of the opening credits in the cartoons of the 1930's. It is commonly played in the key of D, but I like it better in G on the dulcimer.

  • Exellent playing, skillfully done. I like the cheeky addition of the popeye theme tune too.
