actually, it was the 2nd trumpet player. The 2nd player is an amazing soloist, but for one of the tunes, the lead trumpet part had the changes. So the lead and 2nd switched.

My god. I was there for this performance and it was amazing. This guy and EDHS's lead trumpet both tied for best overall soloists at the festival, didn't hey? Amazing stuff.

If you're even familiar with the music, all that he's playing before 2:48 is a written melody with embelishments. At 2:48 is where he's doing the improvised solo section up to 3:27.
