Kim McCleary, President & CEO of The CFIDS Association of America, testifies in October 2008 before the CFSAC:

McCleary illustrates the gross mismanagement of the CFS Research Program at the CDC before the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Advisory Committe (CFSAC). McCleary stated that, "the 'boom' of CFS research that occurred during the 'payback' phase from 1999-2005 has eroded to a 'bust' of shameful scientific leadership, zero accountability, invisible outcomes and millions and millions of dollars stuck in suspended animation, if not wasted."
In her testimony, McCleary describes the the pervasive lack of leadership by William Reeves of the CDC, as well as the blatant wasteful spending within Reeves' CFS Research Program. In addition, McCleary describes the lack of any meaningful research (both planned and performed) since the end of the "payback" period, which ironically is around the time of the departure of Dr. Suzanne Vernon, PhD from the CDC...
Finally, McCleary questions the close relationship between the CFS Research Program at the CDC, and that of the Psychiatry Group at Emory University, which at the time of her testimony, was chaired by Charles Nemeroff, who is under investigation for accepting $1 million from pharmaceutical companies, without disclosing these payments. McCleary also questioned the relationship of the CDC's CFS Research Program, and that of Abt Associates, who received multi-million dollar "sole-source" awards from the CDC since 1989, basically, "for paperwork."
Current funding appropriations for CFS at the NIH has dropped to the same level of funding in 1993. I understand the economy sucks, but if Obama wants to spend $Billons$ buying automakers, banks, insurance giants, foreclosed homes, etc, then there is no excuse for this. It doesn't really even matter what is appropriated for CDC's CFS research, because we all know that nothing quality is coming out of that program...
