This character was inspired by paintings I do. The creatures have many layers. This creature had about 20 layers per cell, not including all the various movement pegs. I'm not sure what kind of a story to put him in at this point. So I just made this silly animation.

The BG is a stylized brick wall that I stretched, and the ground is actually diamond sheet metal stretched and squished. The sunflowers are from a horrible painting I did a few years ago. The sunflower is nice, but the background, of the painting, is horribly distracting. Glad I was able to fins a good use for the image.

I used Toon Boom Studio 4.5 for the character. The Dinosaur was made in Photo Shop then animated in After Effects, then brought back into Adobe Premiere for final editing. I produced the shadows by duplicating the character layers and placing them on the layer below the original. Using "threshold" I made them black. Then I distorted the images and put them lower on the screen.

I got the sounds from freesound.org. That is a great place for many high quality sounds.

  • Great video, very creative! Thumbs up!

Thanks. This was one of those projects where I was between projects... I always have ideas, but for me, I can't seem to be able to start a project until I have all the dialog recorded first. I'd love to get a handle on the Terry Gilliam animation style.

  • it's an escapee from a painting :)

  • @mcasual

Exactly. I need to put a video up that shows this character. It's pretty close to one in a painting I recently finished. I think there were about 75 of them altogether.
