Monday 6th June 2011 Carl Gresham has a very special guest in the BCB studio in the form of Mike d'Abo. Mike had agreed to appear on Carl's show, "Carl Gresham and Friends"on BCB Radio 106.6FM Bradford. The show normally goes out live on Sundays during the Autumn to Spring months, and is usually recorded during the summer months to go out Mondays at 1pm and Tuesdays at 9am. Recording and filming for the first time in studio 3 with a guest who needs no introduction, Mike was lead singer with Manfred Mann in the 60s, shared the lead with fellow 60s music legend Paul Jones, and is now in one of the most prolific touring bands in the UK, Europe and USA "The Manfreds". I know everyone mentions Mike's seminal song Handbags and Gladrags along with "Build Me Up Buttercup", but Mike d'Abo is no one-trick-pony when it comes to writing songs. His work spans 40 years writing for himself, other artistes, TV series, shows and advert jingles. Remember "A finger of Fudge"? Yes, he wrote that too. Interestingly, he mentions that the Cadburys advert was on mainstream TV for more than 13 years. Alongside Mike in the studio was his Manager/Agent Debra Franks of International Music Agency DFO dfo.org.uk with all the w's in front of course. Debra very kindly facilitated the appearance of Mike on Carl's show, so thank you Debra. Talking of Carl, he and Mike have history together as Carl used to tour with "The Manfreds" promoting their merchandise. That was a few years ago, yes, but nonetheless a valid and historical connection. Mike came on to the show to promote his new album "Passion Driven", a collection of 14 song titles with the majority newly penned, Handbags etc, of course is on, and why not, the man wrote it!
One of the good things about filming someone whose music you grew up with as a teenager in the 60s, is listening to the lovely anecdotes they have to offer. Mr d'Abo (Mike) did not disappoint in this department, talking of Rod Stewart, The Beatles, Long John Baldry and Elton John.
Watch the other 2 clips for a rare event in listening to a true 60s legend, Mr Mike d'Abo.
Visit Mike's website mikedabo.com along with The Manfreds themanfreds.com, again with all the w's in front.

With special thanks to BCB Director, Mary Dowson, for arranging the use of Studio 3 for the occasion. bcbradio.co.uk
