  • Thats really cool, and smart too.

  • Thanks. It's just an experiment. Certainly nothing of practical value.

  • Are these "tubes" polar?

  • Yes. Cathode and anode connections. Unless connected properly, the tube will not lase.

  • can I use any barcode scanner to extract HeNe laser tubes? or do newer have diode lasers?

  • Newer ones are diode laser based. You want something from the 80's. Early 90's possibly (I think I saw one dated as late as 91', but don't quote me), but mostly 80's. If you search the web, you can get a deal on one from time to time.

  • @alex681219 Are you joking?

  • What voltage is the lazer rated at?

does it matter if you using too much or too little voltage?

I mean can I damage magnet wire with high voltage from a wimshurst?

  • wow this really shows how simple nature really has made things for us lol. wow! so great thanks for putting up this info!

  • No! Don't use this with ANY laser diode. Electrostatics will destroy laser diodes!
