  • i'm not in mechanical engineering, but these videos are blowing my mind.

  • agreed. insertable spot drill for repetative starter hole functions especially when talking cnc. Centerdrills can be used but correct.. avoid if possible. Believe it or not, center drills can also be used for ingraving larger font letters/numbers etc.

  • no I meant spot drill. center drills are best for making 'centers' for a tailstock in turning operations. It only takes one time for that center drill tip to break off, when the drill follows it's going to: walk, make drill fail prematurely, or scrap part due to being off location. Just safer to avoid the center drill when possible.

  • you mean center drilled ... might not need to be high precision and another operation is to be performed that makes center drilling pointless or maybe its one of the 135-degree split point bits ... doesn't look like one though.

  • Why no spot drill before you send the drill into the cut?
