After Dueling Banjos and Jesse James this felt like the one to try. Written by the great Earl Scruggs and made famous in the 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde.

I use a drop-G tuning, (don´t know if it has a name(?), only the A string is retuned down to a G) because then you have the root notes of the three chords used, G major, E minor and D major, as open "bass" strings.

Of course it doesn´t have to be played at such high tempo (but it should be!) - it´s a bit of a struggle (this is like the 100th take :)
I´ve also noticed this style seems to require some nail on the right hand, otherwise the overall sound may become a bit "blurred".
This is just an idea and it could be developed further, with more solo parts etc.

Yeehaw!

  • I hear a second guitar and a bass. Not that I'm against that or anything...I guess I'm just thinking out loud. Very nice job!

  • @LuisCamachoIII Thanks! The backing track is a bass drum, a mandolin and a bass.

  • Do you think I can play this using hybrid picking and not fingerpicks?

  • @corissimo I think you can, but I think it would be more difficult.

  • left hand fretting will be the easiest part if youve been playing for 10 years...... but the hardest part will be the right hand roll and of course its in the family of travis style picking....so yeah , it will take 3 to 5 years to get that right hand technique just mediocre for the roll and just as long to learn basic travis picking. This guy has been working that right hand into shape for 20 years.....I dont advocate tabs very often but in this case you had better have a look...

  • numero uno

  • i take that back you raped it hard as fuck.... but you dont need the tab it really doesnt look as hard as it sounds till you do the solo...

  • wow if only the tab worked on my computer... and yes you raped it pretty hard hahaha

  • definitely KICK ASS!!!

  • You slayed it dude, Excellent!

  • That was awesome. You looked like you really enjoyed it :) where you learn to do that?

  • Mind blown !

  • This guitar is about the sweetest I've ever heard! I'd give my left leg to be this good!
