This is great - it reminds me so much of my childhood. I used to love BJH - and I still do!

    Nostalgic feelings all along...

part 3, observations continued 9) Les Holroyd remains one of the hairiest mofos in the history of rock n' roll. Even now his gray frizzled brillo pad top remains intact despite it receding with age... and his amazing nose..has he ever had work? It is an epic schnozzola that makes his nasal vocal delivery only 2nd to Mr Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. 10) I could continue, but I fear my comments may be construed wrong. I'm merely poking fun at ths dated clip and truly love BJH! One of my faves!

Who's talking about Chuck Berry? I'm talking about punk. Punk is a caricature of early rock 'n roll. Simple forms and structures get worn down after a while, and that's the moment when innovation is needed. Punk wasn't innovative, it was sheer regression. If people were fed up with mellotron smoothness, well why didn't they take their their inspiration from Frank Zappa instead?

The sort of rock that thinks itself art is not really rock at all. Why do you think that 'art' is better than Chuck Berry? I know I'd rather listen to a three chord workout than some 30 minute mellotron solo. then again, it's all just a matter of preference. I don't really mind what other people like, it's just as valid to them as what I like is to me.

So basically you're saying that rock can never be art music? Remember that jazz, like rock, began as folk music, then became popular music and finally art music. I don't see why people objected to rock following the same path.

Because then it isn't rock. It's classical and jazz.

I wish I had lived in these happy days before punk ruined the music scene with its primitive 3 chord shit. Why did prog rock and psychedelic rock have to go? What's wrong with rock music becoming more complex, closer to the standards of jazz and classical music?
