To say a hurricane is no big deal shows incredible ignorance. You should see this up close. Hurricanes are like no other weather phenomenon. The winds can reach to over 150 miles per hour making even the smallest natural object, such as a pine cone, act like a cannon blast when it hits a structure. The storm surge pushes in like an endless 20-25 foot wave. It wipes away everything in its path. If this wasn't enough, there are still pounding rains which sound like bullets hitting your windows.
If you think its not that bad, then go and see the after math. Far worse than just flooding. Winds, high waves reaching 20 feet at Galveston and flooding reaching around 13 feet in land. You may not think it is bad but it is worse than the flooding you get in Iowa in terms of damage.
Well, it's not the same, not with waves, wind and tornadoes all in one. Far more terrifying and greater loss of life. AFtermath is just as tragic, though. Not good for anyone anywhere.
my wife lived here as a child...crazy to see how bad it got.
