ZigBee-Based Door Bell

The ZigBee video doorbell system is being designed to improve security in an urban apartment building. Unlike a typical doorbell system, this system will wirelessly send streaming images of the guest to the resident so that the resident can securely open the front door to admit the guests. The ZigBee wireless network is known for its low cost and flexibility in installation, which apartment owners may find appealing. Each ZigBee node will be able to communicate with its neighbors to form a mesh network since its transmission range is short. Analog Devices’ Blackfin digital signal processor will be used to compress and decompress the images in order to allow them to be transmitted over this low-bandwidth wireless network. The prototype system includes the integrated ZigBee/Blackfin modules that process and transfer the images.
