Lawmakers prepare to work through the weekend to reach a debt deal and avoid a U.S. default. What will it take to break the stalemate and how would a default impact Americans? Plus, how Obama, Boehner, and Reid have played it so far. Joining Gwen Ifill: Major Garrett, National Journal; Jeanne Cummings, Bloomberg News; David Wessel, The Wall Street Journal; and Karen Tumulty, The Washington Post.

  • Lubricate means bribe

they wont mention the tea party and still blame it for stopping business as usual

stop saying the old wont get their SS check how about ending all these illegal wars

  • wars without end cost money. how is going to pay for them....each and every American..!!

  • Not here, but among the principals, there's way too much theater & drama, and too much serial, hyperbolic misrepresentations of all the elements in play, and limiting of possible solutions to those which are unworkable, unconstitutional, not "on the table" (as "tax increases"... which are actually reversions to prior rates and/or allowing the "Bush tax cuts" to lapse AS SCHEDULED.

Compromise among absolute positions won't work. Synthesis among adjustable positions isn't yet being suggested.

  • Obama: “raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure.” (March 16, 2006) *** ronaldreagan2012.blogspot.com/2011/07/obama-raising-americas-debt-limit-is.html***

  • Great! Please continue to upload the latest shows here. Thank You!

  • “Default” favors the lending institutions to which the US is indebted. Its an excellent excuse to raise rates for every loan the US and everyone in the country owes on. A windfall for the superrich.

If we elected Congress via Internet voting, the grip on Congress by the two-party system would be broken, elected officials would only owe their position to the electorate, Congress would become the place George Washington envisioned, where wise counsels compromise and reach consensus.

  • Tea party wants to make washington honest, what the sam hill will happen if they succeed, ahhh, America will become great once again, what a terrible thing

  • tic-toc, I hear the death knell of the GOP coming in 2014 and 2012.

  • @kingofallclergy you just said bring the troops home. if i remember right he said they'd be home in one year, which is impossible but some people out there live in a fantasy world, now we're in three wars. you think that's smart leadership with our economy on the line? an economy that was on the line many moons ago. his bleeding heart isn't helping anyone at the moment. at some point you have to regroup, get your shit together and Then help others

  • @sheilamccrea1

this has been going on for a longtime. it just got to the point that no one could hide it anymore. every president that has been in office from the present through the last 70+ years is to blame for not getting the handle on this.
