God, could they have made a worse version of such a beautiful song?
Can't say they didn't surprise me though... wouldn't expect it.

AAAUGH, now I seriously need to drive nails in my ears! I feel violated! What's more, The CocaCola Company should be court-marshalled for this crime against humanity!
(Whew, I needed to get that off my chest, thanks)

@Philanderos Don't drink Coke (or any soda, for that matter)... it will rot your teeth out. Secondly, a song as great as this has NO PLACE in the commercial sector.... no matter what.
When a corporation latches on to a song like this, it destroys the meaning and true art behind it.

Garbage!!!

@madchops82 Tom Jobim was alive in 1985 and I am SURE he was pretty pissed. This sucks!!!!

I love all these healthy people doing healthy activities drinking Coke. In reality, I doubt that most people (but not all, haters)
are quite this active! Running up stairs! Training for the long jump! Come on! Water is where its at...

Catchy tune. Maybe because of the heavy treatment by Coke, it's not "Waters of March" but "Waters of Coke". Like I said, catchy tune to the ears, but leaves a bad taste after listening to it.
I have a very different version of that commercial of a VHS tape. It has a girl singing, the music is much more subdued, but a lot of the footage is the same.

I saw the add in question on Youtube but it was not credited as "Waters of March". One tip is to look for Coke's 80's ads...

I disagree. Coke may be shit, and Jobim could puke if alive, but the song is an admirable effort to render the song's meaning rather than sticking to poor literal translations and overtly sentimental renditions of the original song. I drink (Coca-Cola) to that.

It's the wind blowing free,
It's the end of the slope,
It's a beam, it's a void,
It's a hunch, it's a hope
And the river bank talks
of the waters of March,
It's the end of the strain,
The joy in your heart

The oak when it blooms,
A fox in the brush,
A knot in the wood,
The song of a thrush
The wood of the wind,
A cliff, a fall,
A scratch, a lump,
It is nothing at all
