I am not saying it is impossible to play these hands profitably from the blinds, but I would say less than 1% of small stakes players from my experience do. At the end of the day, we are going to have much better plus EV spots to play and don't need to play these hands. Also let's just say we have a better hand than the btn? So what, sometimes we are going to be folding the best hand and there is a name for players who never fold the best hand. Calling stations.

  • @Pos4thst

Now let's say we flop a set. Well because btn's opening range is wide, it is very unlikely that he hit the board hard so we are virtually going to never get good value from our hand.

So to summarize, when we call OP with small /med PP's we:

    1) Are playing a hand OP that is at best a slight favorite

2)It is extremely hard for our hand to improve postflop

    3) Are going to be put in difficult spots on virtually every flop where we are going to have to play the check and guess game.

  • @Pos4thst

Let's take a closer look. First, 3betting is probably by far the worst option. At the very best we are going to be 50% against his calling range and there are no flops that are good for our hand. So we will be playing a bloated pot OP with a hand that is often dominated. If we give the btn a 40% opening range(which is wider than 90% of players at these stakes) we are still only have a 55/45 edge. Then on virtually every flop we are going to have an underpair.

  • @Pos4thst

It is far better to make a tight fold too early than a marginal call too late. As far as small PP's go is the real issue is that if we 3bet in that spot we are only getting called by a dominated range. So we are creating a bloated pot, OP, with a dominated hand. These are not spots that I want to put myself in. If we are playing mid or high stakes, there may be some times that this is appropriate but at small stakes, I just feel that there is a need to make fancy plays like that.
