This is a part of a school project for a Speech and Language Pathology course (other videos are linked), done as a series of short advertisements, to raise awareness about misconceptions around stuttering and people who have speech disfluencies. The Stuttering Awareness Council is a made-up name, so is the doctor Essel Pea ;). Otherwise, facts about stuttering, what stutterers experience, and famous people who had the disfluency are real.
Enjoy :)

also my friends seem not to care, or they are all used to it by now. i even asked one of my friends and she said she does not think of me as someone who stutters.

it does vary with situations as you have said. like sometimes i get it around new girls... which sucks a bunch cz im trying to get back on the market after a really hard breakup. but yeh, i dunno, maybe i should see a speech therapist again and take it seriously.

how much of an affect does it have on your life tho?

  • @emilydanielle17

hey at least it doesnt hinder your professional life you know... or does it?

im 24 and its up and down for me. bit better now than say when i was 13 or 14 years old... when it was really, really bad. i can certainly say it does not affect my life (im at uni) much at all. i usually have a lot of confidence sometimes over confidence around people. but yes i have to say i have anxiety problems too, maybe they were started by me stuttering and vice versa. like a catch 22.

I am also a preschool teacher. I find it a little easier when I talk to the children. I also found that telling your friends makes it better. I love your attitude.

I have watched some of my home videos and I have had it since I was about 4. I used to say "um" a lot. As years went on, I had it a little bit and then once middle school and high school came along, it got a little worse each year. My stuttering is more of a hesitation. My letters get stuck. It usually happens at the beginning of a sentence. Some letters and situations are definitely harder than others. I am almost 20. I hope it gets better. My anxiety might contribute to it.

  • @emilydanielle17 really? i dont care and just do it... people just have to deal with me lol...

how bad is it? mine seems to be getting a bit better with age. how long have you had it for?

  • I have a stuttering problem and I am afraid to do all of those things...
