Duke Clock Error: UNC at Duke 2005

#2 (and eventual National Champion) UNC trails #8 Duke 70-71 with 17 seconds left. Duke has a read on the play UNC is going to run and Raymond Felton, unable to get the ball to Sean May or Rashad McCants (best player in college basketball 2004-2005, btw), picks up his dribble and passes the ball to David Noel, who loses the ball out of bounds.

This video is an example of YET ANOTHER late-game clock error at Duke. Whether or not the ball went off that goober Melchionni is not the point; the point is that the idiotic timekeeper failed to stop the clock even the ball landed out of bounds with a good 2.0 seconds still on the clock!

And no, I'm not bitter. Hansbrough would set things straight and rechristen that dump Hansbrough Indoor the following year and UNC would regroup and learn from that loss to win the national title in 2005 while Reddick and Co. went down in overhyped flames year after year. Wear those ACC Tournament t-shirts and caps with pride, boys!

By the way, notice the egregious push/handcheck by Nelson on Noel, which is basically what caused him to lose the ball. What a load of crap.

If you watch the play from the regular TV angle there's clearly no push/handcheck by Nelson. Nelson got his hand on the ball to knock it away from Noel and it was Noel's own momentum, not any force applied by Nelson, that carried Noel slowly out of bounds (he basically walked out of bounds once he realized the game was over). Also, the ball landed out of bounds with 0.8 seconds left on the clock and the official right near the play signaled Duke possession.

They added more time because the officials let the clock run too long after the VT basket. That's why 0.6 seconds were added. THEY DO THAT FOR A TEAM EVERY SINGLE GAME THAT COMES DOWN TO THE FINAL PLAY!!As for Duke always getting everything, last year twice as many calls in favor of Duke's opponents were called as opposed to in favor of Duke. However, Duke haters counter this statement by saying, "Duke gets all the calls." How intelligent.
