  • how can you make sure that there is no energy running through the wires when you turn off the circuit breaker, like as a safety precaution. a double check.

  • @UncleSam493 You can use a digital volt meter

  • Do you need to turn off the circuit breaker or just turn off the switch in the room?

  • @markcgreer turn off the circuit breaker unless you want to run the risk of lighting up like a christmas tree ;)

  • @HomeAdditionPlus Are you sure? A friend who wired a new construction house told me that just turning off the switch was enough. I just finished installing the light without turning off the breaker. I touched all of the wires bare handed on an aluminum ladder haha...

  • @markcgreer . Yes, after 30 years as an electrical engineer I know it only takes touching the wrong wire or lead once and you can find yourself knocked on the floor if your lucky, and dead if your not.

  • I hate those energy saving bulbs. They give real bad headaches.

  • @markcgreer You probably want to listen to the man and switch the circuit breaker off. Once the light switch is off, if you are ever unsure whether it is off or not, there is no way to tell at that point. It is also impossible to tell if you are installing a brand new light fixture, in which case you would have no idea either way whether it is off or not. So, it is just to be cautious and guarantee you don't electrocute yourself at the cost of a little extra effort.

  • @markcgreer yeah real smart, if the switch is located on the n cable ( the cable where electricity goes BACK) instead of the L you're toast! always double check!

  • very helpful,thanks.

I am not going to hire other people to do this, I can do it myself.

  • @markcgreer Better safe than sorry.
