You're right, because I haven't bought this game, because this video tells (and shows) me absolutely nothing. "There are many notable things about our game, such as the AI." "There are several unique innovations in our game, such as this other thing related to the AI." It's like reading a badly sourced Wikipedia article. In conclusion, it is believed that some people have said some things about various subjects, generally speaking, and AI War is a land of contrasts and also is at a crossroads.

Nearly half of a one minute video is dedicated to saying "the AI is good". This is a very bad way to try to sell a game to a general audience.

After playing AI war for several hours, it's quite the opposite actually. The method used to keep a track of ships inside a planets orbit, is far superior in AI war, hence there being too much junk, is irrelevant, while the one in Solar covers the fucking screen if I have a huge fleet.

It's way easier to keep track of things in-game, not that i usually have that many planets :D

DTD played a big part in tower defense going mainstream but happened nowhere near its birth. Agreed on it being a good example though.
What is tower defense ? does this mean build a stationary structure like a missile turret in starcraft?

Sort, of, but it's a whole complicated subgenre. For a great intro to that subgenre in its purest form, google Desktop Tower Defense -- it's a flash-based game (free) that was close to the birth of the genre. The basic idea is how enemy waves are scheduled and your defenses are all fixed in position. That is not always true in AI War, but one part of the game does have that sort of general flavor moreso than many other RTSes.

Not to mention it takes years to complete a game by the looks of things,

Most campaigns take between 7-12 hours, but a few take less and some take more. It's no longer than your average 4X game -- Civilization IV, GalCiv, etc.

im really on about general skirmish mode, which takes ages
the campaign was long enough on civilization, one of the reasons why i stopped playing the damn thing

AI War's campaigns are not in the scripted sense of a lot of other RTS games -- it's not a series of isolated story-based battles or anything.
Rather, it's sort of like the Conquer the World mode in some games (I think Civ IV?), where it's basically the biggest skirmish mode you've ever seen, stretched out across 10-120 planets, all in realtime simultaneously.
It does take a long time to play, but that's part of the draw. Actions you take have further-reaching consequences, etc.
