A scary, tense, scene from 1963's THE HAUNTING. No blood no gore, just scary!!! They knew how to do it back then, or, at least Robert Wise knew.

Yep, in an age when monsters are 2-a-penny and blood is all over the TV every day and night, this movie scared the beejeesus out of my kids like no Alien or Predator could. Ok... I was scared too!

    Best ghost flick ever made.

Definitely one of the scariest films I've ever seen, if not the scariest! If I watch a clip from Insidious at night, I'll jump and that's it, nothing to worry about. But with The Haunting, the title doesn't just mean ghost haunting, it also means that it stays with you after you've watched it. That is why this is so terrifying

Agreed. I'm not going to target America but movies like this should never be remade, they wont get better. It will go from a classic to a franchise ):

First saw this when I was 15. Scared the shit out of me. The great old tactic of leaving the imagination of the viewer to fill in the gaps and scare themselves to death

I had seen the modern remake of this film before I came across the original version on TV and I thought an old black and white film with no special effects couldn't be as good. Well it turns out that the remake is really plain and random in comparision, the original film isn't properly scary but the castle decor and the athmosphere are so unhealthy and disquieting that it's enough to make you feel unconfortable. The film doesn't need to show ghosts or anything to inspire fear. Powerful film.

Why is it hollywood feel compelled to remake all of our English classics. And usually make a complete hash of it?! The remake of this was a cartoon in comparison.

Remakes Get carter & The Wicker man were peurile.

It seems the jealous US filmmakers want to try and diminish these great original films.

    No chance!
