Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up.

When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew's pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.

The Thing serves as a prelude to John Carpenter's classic 1982 film of the same name

I saw the movie, although it has few mistakes and few scens witch could have been done better. Im satisfyed. What I really missed although was...hmm the caracters in the movie, didnt have the famous puffy '80s hair. lol. Otherwise a good movie, and btw its not a remake but a prequel.

exactly...and the funny thing is so many idiots still think this movie is a retarded "remake" yet their slow asses dont realize...you get to see the nightmare that took place before Kurt Russell (mc creedy) & The doc showed up at the wrecked camp site. Thats why this movie is so special. seeing this shit way back in the 80s as a kid was so fucked up that as a i got older i wondered more what the fuck happened at that camp?? and what the hell was that 2 headed thing??

YUP! i agree with you on that. i seen it in the theater friday and it was some shit i seen in the trailers that DID NOT happen in the movie...thats so funny i see your comment because although im a fan of the first story in 1982 i was really freakin stunned how this movie came out...it was a bit freakier than i expected. Above all the easter eggs in the movie that you saw glimpses of in the 1982 film were well brought out in full blast. dawn of the dead team did their job!

@leviathan3k2000 so your saying the biggest cliche they can do in movies which is in the last 10 seconds will somehow make people jump and not suspect it? even my little cousin knew what was going to happen, its pathetic their still using crap scare tatics like that. Hate to break it the doubters, but over half the shit you see in the trailer will not be presented that way in the theater. It won't be cliche like most idiots think. They do that to draw movie goers, you know there are more people out there than fans of the original. The trailer is geared for new audiences, but they will not know whats coming when they walk into that theater I promise you.

@warwick2155 The last 10 seconds of the trailer left out the real effects. They show those clips on the official site and the CG moments in that part of the trailer are NOT CG in the movie. Do your research before you talk shit. Actually I'm 25 and grew up with the original. I'm simply open minded and you're not. LOL and you didn't pay attention to what I said! I said HYPOTHETICALLY if its better than the old one you would still hate it. Never said I thought it would be better. Pay attention.
