You sound like you have a stuffy nose.

just finishing up a silver quarter for my soon to be wife, starting on my 1/2 dollar later tonight, i do it using a heavy spoon, takes abit longer but ive had one warp on me, and it was no fun trying to fix it.

All you need to do is drill a hole in the middle. Put it on a mandrel and pound it with a plastic hammer. Then flip it upside down and repeat. Your ring sucks dude. It looks all sharp on the inside. Anyone can pound the coin and drill out the center. You need some more practice.

i like this guy's videos and the concept of making coins into rings (i'm doing it myself) but again, i just want to warn everyone to watch out for valuable coins. using a poor condition coin or a coin not worth much more than its value in silver is completely fine, but don't do something like this to a 1932 S quarter... what coin collectors will pay for a small chunk of silver can seem surprising, but don't rob yourself......... :S so check the dates and mint marks first! :)

Fascinating idea...how do you get the ring to a smaller size than the diameter of the coin?
-
how much would it cost to have metals melted down and shaped into something else in a jewelry store?
-
@BookofNick can this be done with any quarter or is there something about silver coins that make them easier to hammer?
-
I made one of these then someone stole it while i was at the pool... sad....

This is a cool vid, but I really hate seeing coins destroyed like this.

@stuff123995 yes it is uncomfortable and I learned that the hard way (it hurts to shake hands lol) so the next one i made i made it to the smallest diameter or the other one with the raise lip, and i carefully ground/sanded the raised edge... as to not remove the lettering... good luck with your ring!
Ummmmm yeah, so how legal is it to this again? Lol. Also- show us HOW u did it. Nice ring tho- wedding rings should be more valuable sentimentally than monetary!

@ajbdtc826 It's only illegal if you deface the coin for the purpose of counterfeit - in other words, modifying a quarter to try and pass it off as a dollar coin is counterfeit and illegal, but modifying a coin to create something other than currency is okay, because I'm not trying to pass it off as currency. I checked.

I still don't get how you hammered it and made it.

@pkpk5770 It's hard to explain. Do a YouTube search for "how to make a ring from a coin" and click on the first video that comes up. A guy does a step-by-step from a shilling.

I like your idea of going "back" to where money had an actual material value.
I've watched a few other of your vids, and I agree on your point, that eventually, the paper-money will be worth nothing. So as far as savings go - go precious metal =)
It also gives one self an idea of what your money is actually worth. In these days with credit cards pretty much being 95% of all paid transactions, and money mostly only existing as numbers in a computer system, this is a welcome sight.

@berg89dk Thank you. My awareness of money is recent - just a few years ago, I didn't own a single silver dime and mostly just used my credit card. But more and more people are realizing they are being cheated, which I think will be positive in the long-run.
