I meet him twice and he got his dog Old King after me. Kidding. Neil's "something" is introspection, feelings, and the courage to say reflective things and his perfectly off-ptich voice of alienation and hope and sensitivity.

If I where to think of bands you mentioned you like as Bruce S I would think of Atlantic City as a haunting song but its not really like Philadelphia. Randy Newman - Louisiana 1927. What a great tune .Neil Young really early in his career .Its all there

@aasa63 Yeah He's got that certain sometime. Cool, sensitive, courageous and fiercely independence. And he just comes up with great melodies and lyrics and always something a little cryptic. And his voice is really so cool to think that some think he's too nasal .. well he might be but they are missing the realness.. and the rawness of his guitar strumming and voice together in this song.. Makes me shiver for a second when I think of some commercial pop singers "improving on" this.
