TOURBILLON
This kinetic sculpture is named after the mechanical system which counteracts the effects of gravity on certain expensive analog watches. In fact, a more accurate title would be a gyro-turbillon since it has 3 axes.
The sculpture is activated by gently turning its handle and let it spin freely. Soon, the motion becomes chaotic causing its 3 separate subsystems to rotate randomly inside each other.
The sculpture measures about 3' x 3' x 3' and is supported by a tall column. It was acquired by Shab Levy in 2011 from its creator, the late Ken Patton, who died suddenly only two months after completing the sculpture.
This short movie was videotaped in 3D by Shab Levy.
