Jack Sinclair plays Sidney Bechet's haunting melody 'Jacqueline' accoustically on a Schreiber German Oehler system Bb clarinet with amazingly powerful tonal quality. Recorded with a tiny Sony Cyber-shot Digital Still Camera at a concert by the Thames Valley Jazz Quartet on 6 November 2010.

  • The first bar of the B section can be either Fmaj or Fmaj9. Second bar can be Fmaj6 or alternatively flows nicely with Fo (diminished) and the third and fourth bars are Fmaj. With the melody line as I am playing it you should also try splitting the second bar on Fmaj6/Fo (2 beats on each) and you can then decide which progression you prefer. Let your ear decide. (In my view, harmonics are never cast in stone!)

Are you playing 'Jaqueline' on clarinet? Best regards, Jack

  • i cant figure out the first chords to the B section, can you help me out?

  • @steve13254 Hi Steve, I determined the chords which apply (in concert key of F major) from an original (old) recording. How many (and which) bars are you unsure about in the B section? Jack

  • Brilliant!!!
