My students Ben Gutierrez and Wyeth Howard have programmed a Robodyssey Mouse robot to follow a wall in preparation for the International Robot Fire Fighting Competition in April 2010. The cool thing is they did it with one IR ranger and a turret mount. All parts can be purchased from Robodyssey Systems.
Robodyssey Systems manufactures the Mouse robot and RAMB II motherboard you see here. The robots brain is NetMedias BX-24 microcontroller, which is programmed using the BasicX language. I am the author of the worlds only BasicX textbook; if you are interested in learning how to program your own robot, see my website at www.basicxandrobotics.com.
