The atoms that make up every single part of our brains and bodies were created in the centres of stars billions of years ago. Each person may well be a unique configuration of those atoms, but these building blocks are older than the Earth itself.

As has been said, we are stardust.

But we are conscious stardust. Unlike the chair we are sitting on, we are aware of our surroundings and are capable of thinking about, reflecting upon and learning about the universe in which we exist.

We are the consciousness of the universe. We are the universe discovering itself.

We are not separate from it. We are it.

  • @CBrownSays or we think because we exist

  • if whatever you want to call it is infinite, which it must be, everywhere is the centre, or if you like, there is no centre, as the term centre implies measuring, and measuring is always relative, and an infinite thing cannot be measured

  • @kimayres I have to say I agree with you on that debate =)

  • @CBrownSays - part 2 :) - I think the idea that we are all made of atoms, themselves created billions of years ago, along with the idea that we are the centre of the universe (which is both meaningful and meaningless depending on how you look at it - is the kind of thing that helps us break free from a mundane outlook on life. Not unlike "sound of one hand clapping" or whether a falling tree makes a noise if no one hears it. This is about opening minds, not conning people :)

  • @CBrownSays - of course it's philosophical speculation - I have a background in philosophy :)

I have to say I don't understand your concerns about "most people" (an interesting claim that you know the minds of most people and know that they would not understand the meaning in what I say).

  • @CBrownSays - to be honest, I think you're missing the point by deciding to get extremely literal about what is essentially a metaphorical statement. Depending on whether you are an egomaniac or suffering from an inferiority complex, you can either allow yourself to feel as important as everyone else or as unimportant as everyone else. Which ever way you read it, it is a levelling issue. Open up to the idea behind the analogy rather than getting sucked into the detail of the analogy :)

  • @CBrownSays - Did you not listen to the very next words?

"But so is everyone, and everything!"

Everywhere is the centre of the universe. Now you can either take that to mean we are all important or none of us is important - that's your half-full, half-empty choice :)

  • @mrudhulraj - the ideas come from a combination of sources. I have a degree in Philosophy, have studied several religious texts, have a Higher in Physics, and have watched vast amounts of Star Trek, Babylon 5 and Farscape :)
