@TomyTrackmastertrain We actually got rid of it a couple of days after that. It would have been turned off in the beginning if we realized that it was beeping, we were too occupied with something a little more exciting.

It very well could have been that strong at the location of the wind recording instrument, but at your location it doesn't look any stronger than 60 mph. A typical garden-variety minimally severe downburst. Downburst winds are extremely variable in velocity over short distances. I have a lot of experience being in wind velocities up to borderline EF3 velocity.and personally observing it live around me. I do not recommend anyone putting their life or anyone else's at risk though. .

That's Texas for you. When it storms here, it FRICKING storms. I remember that storm very well. If memory serves me correct, I think winds were pretty much hitting the 60-80mph range through Tarrant/Denton/Johnson counties and reached 80-100 mph in Collin/Rockwall/Kaufman/Hender
son. That was a very nasty Derecho event, but also very sweet. -
I wish i was there

I like storms very good, but i live in norway so is not that big :(
It looks like the peak wind at your particular location was maybe 60 mph at most. 58 mph is the threshold of severe thunderstorm wind criteria..

@cape6000jkg I've been studying storms for long enough to know from just watching the video that it's well over the 58mph severe threshold. Also, it was recorded by professional meteorologist equipment in my area of a gust of 102mph with sustained winds of 80mph.

was the power out
zachsaber1 9 months ago
@zachsaber1 Yes, the strong winds knocked almost everyone's power out in North Texas, although some areas were without power for several days, ours was only out for about 18 hours.
