Just fooling around once, I discovered that once my hand learned where the strings were, it didn't matter what I had in my hand - it knew instantly. I grabbed a teaspoon one night just for fun, and the harp sounded like a hammer dulcimer. Try it! Song is "Farther Along".

  • great clip, and yes it does sound like a hammered dulcimer. What model OS is it you are playing in this clip?

  • It's about a 1974 OS model, originally a 15 chord harp, converted to a 6 button harp, key of F.

  • this is fantastic! (I say as I grab a teaspoon and pick up my 'harp)

  • I can not wait to try this. Thanks for sharing. Way cool.

  • What a great sound. Thanks for the idea.

  • That is awesome!!! never saw anyone play the ah like that! thank you for posting!

  • Amazing! I've seen/heard the autoharp hammer played before but never using a teaspoon and it does indeed produce a sound much closer to the dulcimer than wood or hard rubber.

  • Incredible. Shows what they say is true--the music isn't in the instrument; the music is in YOU.
