Originally this video was about overclocking the HD4670, since overclocking any GPU is basically the same process the title has been changed. As an example, here's how to overclock AMD's Radeon HD4670 512Mb. But a similar process can be used for almost any video card.

Also, I had to change the original soundtrack because at the time I was being considered for partnership.

*Below is original video info from 2009*
Launched in 2008, the HD4670 is a decent mid-range card for the price, after 2 years now, you might still have it, and there's new games out but you want better performance without getting another card. Well, without upgrading, overclocking is your best option! In this video you will see exactly how far the HD4670 can go, as far as stable gaming is concerned.

========================

To overclock your GPU you will need software to do so. But you ask "Why not use overdrive in the Catalyst?" Well, it's limited. So if you are using a 32-Bit OS you can go and get ATI Tray Tools. If you are using 64-Bit you will have to use Riva Tuner. Both apps are simple to use, provided you don't excessively OC the GPU/MEM. To monitor and check accurate speeds I recommend getting GPU-Z. It does it all in one app.

** If ATI Tray Tools won't work for you, just download RivaTuner as it works on any Windows based PC.

Okay, now for Overclocking!
[Test system details in video.]
[ OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit - Retail Version *Clean Install* ]
[ Catalyst Drivers: 9.10 ]
The fan's top speed is 3000rpm, which I will keep the fan at for purposes of testing.

Default Speeds:
GPU: 750 Mhz
MEM: 800 Mhz

Highest Stable Overclock:
GPU: 795 Mhz
MEM: 970 Mhz

The highest speed you can reach may vary. I am doing this in winter, the ambient temp in this room is 16'C (60'F) to keep the PC cool. Also the components in your PC may affect the max speed achievable. I advise you to only overclock if you have a front fan bringing cold air in and a rear fan venting out warm air, and for best results, a side fan also. All fans in the test PC ran at 1,500rpm max. All other fans ran at 3,000rpm (CPU, GPU, PSU). Mention again, the temperature, it is quite cold here. So that adversly affects max speed I can get, but you should be able to get within at least 20 or 30 mhz of what Ive reached.

Game tests:::
[ All tests run at 1440x900 ]

[ Adaptive AA set to Quality ]
[ AA & AF set to application control ]
[ AA filter used: Wide-tent ]
[ V-Sync & Triple Buffering off ]
[ Fan set to 100% ]

Thanks for watching the video and if you read all of the above.

Hopefully this video has shown you that you dont need to upgrade your video card all the time.

Since I bought this card back in Sep 2009 it has been able to run every single game I have at 1920x1200 above 30FPS with the exception of Crysis & GTA4.

Recommended Graphics cards:
AMD:
HD5770, HD4850, HD 5670, HD 3470, HD4670.
(HD3470 is recommended because if you have a laptop with it, it can run Far Cry 2, Dirt2, GRID, and F.E.A.R at a reasonable 20FPS. Which is only useful for not so serious LAN Parties)

Nvidia:
Choose AMD, Nvidia cards consume way too much power to justify the cost of the card over the long run.

  • Hi,I installed ati tray tools with no success, the program doesnt' start .I have w7 32 bits.

  • @95928225 Then download RivaTuner, it works for both 64/32 bit systems. Tray tools is just more user friendly.

  • I don't understand why PC gamer users spend all this trouble and money constantly updating their hardware and overclocking their hardware when the could just get a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 and never have to bother.

  • @JonnyDude2009 Xbox 360 & PS3 technology is over 5 years old. (Incl the new PS3)

    PC's with the newest Video cards can outperform both consoles put together. Higher resolutions, textures, better sound, better experience. Complete customization with mods for games. Plus being able to use a 360 controller on PC negates the need for a console forever. Plus FREE online gaming.
