Ever wonderered what it would be like raising a baby monkey? Well this video shows you the true meaning of being a 'monkey mom' and what a 'monkey mom's' mission should be.
Meet Liberty, a baby monkey who's real, natural mother was shot by a farmer. Being a human surrogate is a wonderful and rewarding job, although a 24 hour, 7 days a week commitment. Letting go of your 'baby' is hard, but it is all part of doing what is best for the little monkey miracle you are raising. It is a 'mothers' job to teach the little ones to be confident, sociable little beings, so they can be part of a troop of their own kind.
Enjoy, and if you would like to help Liberty and orphans like her you can adopt, volunteer or donate;

@kasandrasigns Poachers will set a trap, let the alpha go in and eat, then when the troop comes in to eat they spring the traps. The leader watches his whole troop vanish. This is where they pull the babies from the mama's. If a female puts up too much of a fight, they just shoot her. The juvenile males have the teeth cut or pulled right there, and some will be castrated with piano wire. This is the bush meat and "pet" monkey trade overseas.

@kutzbill I saw that too. broke my heart. that show changed my mind. I was thinking about having a monkey baby then i saw that lady and it broke my heart. I think it would be fun to have one little baby but not if I had to take it from its mother. id be sad if someone took my baby away at three days old. I wish I could be a fostermommy to one but I doubt that there is any place here for me to volinteer to help.

exelente video.... me dio mucha rabia y molestia una foto que aparece un hombre vestido de militar junto a un niño , se veian felices por haber matado a un baboon con una arma, que imbeciles ojala mueran de la misma forma

The breeder said she had the pair for 19 years (Capuchins) and if she didn't pull the baby (it was a male) right away, sometimes the mother would eat it. I can't say monkeys are my favorite animal, but it breaks my heart thinking of the baby, pulled from the mother just minutes after it's born, living alone in a cage until someone pays cash for it because their lonely. Just give me the cash and figure it all out for your self. Wait until it hits puberty, what then? USDA Monkey mill !

I watched a show, (My mates a primate) and the lady buying the monkey paid $5500.00 cash to a USDA breeder. The breeder joked at how the breeding pair she had would just throw the baby at her when they saw her coming knowing that she was going to pull the baby. She was laughing when she said how she had to keep the newborn alone, in a dark cage so it would imprint on the owner. She kept them for 11 to 22 days alone to make sure the baby would survive. Nothing on how to raise it at all. CONT'

She's got a lot better chance with you guys than in the wild. I have about 800 monkeys. Macaques, vervets, and baboons. I find up to as many as 22 a week dead. Either from males or rejection.
Sad but true. They stand a little under 40% survival in the wild.
Are you able to release any? How much success have you had?
Feel free to write me. I've worked with them over 30 years. Don't let the name fool you.
