Yep...that's me on the day I received the Sacrament of Holy Communion
I was in 2nd grade and we were living in Weston Massachusetts - we went to mass at the parish of St. Julia in that town - my 1st Communion class was taught by Nuns back then
I remember the "bow tie" well and my brother Charlie helping me put it on
...
I was the 6th shortest in the class so I ended up sitting on the 1st row aisle as we took our places in the church which meant I was the 1st to receive communion - I think I said "amen" but was too frightened to remember that part of the day
I do remember my brother Paul was an "Alter Boy" for the service - you can see him walking into the church with me and at the end with the glasses
I still have the certificate I'm holding in my hand at the end of this video and the "Timex" watch with the roman numerals my parents gave me in celebration
Funny thing is...I now teach kids First Communion at St. Francis Xavier here in NYC - I only hope I can inspire them as much as the Nuns at St. Julia inspired me
