I have had several requests to post some footage of me teaching a class live. This is some footage I shot today, with their permission, of my Saturday morning Step Challenge class that I teach at AllStar Fitness in Tacoma, WA (www.allstarfitness.com). It is typically an all-female class, ranging in age from late teens to late 60s, and they totally rock my world =)

  • OMFG! I'm going to take my very first class this evening. Watching this has me scared to death!!!

  • @maxtheknife Don't be scared...this is the END of the class, after we practiced the combos in bits, then linked, and then all together. If you have a good instructor who knows how to cue well, you should be just fine. That, and what I always tell new people in my class: Allow yourself to be a beginner and try not to be too self-critical. No one is judging you, and it's supposed to be fun =)

  • EXCELLENT, Easy to Follow Combos's! I used so tonight and the class LOVED them. Thanx for the Post! Great Job!

  • @jimmyfab thanks so much, and stay tuned! I will be posting my latest choreography this Saturday, and it will include two new twists that I've never shared in over 27 years of instructing. The first is a new addition to my "L" signature moves (L-box step, L-grapevine, etc). It's in the 4th combo and it's an "L-Mambo." The other thing I'll demo is how to sequence the choreo either self-reversing or alternating the combos. We did it in class last week, will film this Saturday =)

  • oh wow, i thought that was the warmup, was thinking and beginners would be screwed.

  • @rc08abk Thank you for your kind words. When you love it as I much as I do, it's just fun to teach. So glad to hear your first class went well. It keeps getting better, trust me =)

  • @lindafmb Oh bugger, I just realised the mistake I made in my first comment! :D I'm sure you've probably gathered that I meant 'this looks fantastic' rather than what I actually wrote. These guys make it look so easy!

So, I had my first class and it was brilliant. I was a bit lost a few times, as most people knew the steps, but I'll definitely be going again! Thank you for the videos. You're great, Linda!

  • @rc08abk Aw, thanks! I've been teaching step since the 80s, so I've had a lot of practice. Good luck with your first class...I'll be posting more footage of my Saturday morning class soon. They really are rock stars, and make it look easy =)

  • This looks like fantastic! You seem like a great teacher. I have my first Step class tonight, let's hope it's as fun as this!

  • @Rmmingus that's the final build. I teach link style...teach one 32-count combo on the right side, then link right and left together. Then teach the second combo the same way, and link combos 1 and 2 together, and so on, linking 4-6 combos per class...but I almost always teach new choreo each class, so everyone starts fresh from scratch =)
