Back when I was working at KAYU Fox 28, A T. rex Named Sue came through the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture. I was put in charge of setting up a webcam so users could view Sue being assembled live over the span of 3 days.
The webcam was a big hit, receiving more traffic than any other web initiative we had ever done. The Field Museum in Chicago, which permanently houses the real Sue skeleton, said that no one had ever done what we did. Employees at The Field Museum watched live as Sue was assembled and called the MAC with advice based on what they were seeing online.
After Sue was assembled, the webcam had to be taken offline, so I put this time-lapse video together.
Technical details: This was shot using a Logitech webcam hooked into a Dell laptop. The software I used is called Webcam32, which was the best Windows-based webcam software I've ever used, and which unfortunately is no longer in development. This time-lapse was edited on an AVID Xpress DV.
