  • baroquegeek, Thank you so much for this upload. I have the original recording in LP, and I just do not understand why Anthony Newman never release this fantastic recording in CD.

Please do a favor to our musical community and give us the PASSACAGLIA and FUGUE that you have in the same original recording. IT IS FANTASTIC!!!!!!

  • @manuelkatarino WHAAAT?!?!?! I did not know that he did that as well. I think E. Power Biggs did it as well. He also did the Bach Trio Sonatas on Pedal Harpsichord and I lost my CD. That is where I got the love for Pedal Harpsichord. I got this track while i was studying at Acadia University. It was a listening example that I fell in love with. I envy you for having the LP. You will need to do me and the musical world a favour and upload it to Youtube. I am most interested!

  • and there still people who think rock´n roll is an modern invention....

  • This is a wonderful sound - cleaner and less heavy than when performed on a organ. The block chords are still grandiose, but the polyphony is razor sharp. Incredible.

  • @kasyapa Agreed! I listened. Oh is it ever good. That is some tight and beautiful composing and I definitely enjoyed that performance.

  • baroquegeek - check out biggs' performances of the bach passcaglia & fugue in c minor - it is mighty beyond words!

  • this is fascinating ... people would argue that the pedal harpsichord was a mere practising device ... I disagree. I would surely like to have a pedal harpsichord which I could master the trio-sonatas on.

  • Yes they are fascinating things......I have one! Tuning one! Mine has 7 sets of strings... Nightmare..... Still I love it... Massive thing (or "things" 'cus there are two parts to it - 3 if you count the bench!) Everyone should have one......

  • Isn't the pedal harpsichord teriffic? It was invented to allow organists to practice organ music at home when the German churches and cathedrals were too cold in the winter to keep the organs in tune.
