@weedermann well said...although the modern approach of "let's make the music sterile because we can't imagine what the composer intended" is probably worse than taking a dip in the deep end and making a bad interpretation. I'd rather hear a dozen sincere mess ups than a hundred of these modern renditions where no one wants to take any risks...
@cubanbach The music ORIGINATED in the composer's mind...he/she discerns it in its purest state...hears it as it's more sublime. THEN he/she has to drag it down into the realm of senses and convert it into notes to be played by and listened to others who have no idea what they are hearing. These newcomers have to interpret the composer's fare according to their own experience. Sometimes these listeners cop attitudes & imagine they know a composer's music better than he. Yeah, right...
@vocalpianist i think it's the other way round LOL prokofiev came first :P but yes, i love argerich's performance

@slateflash How can a composer "interpret" his OWN music.

I love the way he plays the laugh theme, and then dives into the Rachmaninoff joke with great pseudo-passion...

From 7:48 on is nothing short of amazing. So glad to hear Prokofiev perform his own work.

@cearbhaill Me too. It is one of the greatest moments in all music. I'm glad I'm not the only one :)
