You can use either. Using more than one image is actually best, but sometimes you don't always have more than one. Also, note that the new version of photomatix does this differently. it's still under the automate menu.

Thanks very much for this tutorial. I've been trying to use just the right search terms to find a simple easy to follow tutorial to make a faux-hdr image from just one .jpg image file w/ P'Matix Pro. Your tutorial explains how to make it work like a charm w/ their newest version 3.2.7 also. No multiple exposures or RAW files necessary in a pinch. Great Job.

Slight update to this video, the new version does not give the option to select only 1 during the batch process.

It starts with all/2/3/4/5/... /10. And all setting has to be more than one image.

Easy solution I found was to just copy and paste one image, then rename it to anything you like, then re-paste the same image again with the original file name.

Then you can continue to follow the same steps in your tutorial.

Nice idea man. Your video just made me think of a faster way that I can't believe I never thought of after several months with photomatix lol! The whole time I have been using PS and making 3 images by changing the exposures in it, now i thought of this new way so I'll make a tutorial right now so check it out.

thanks for your informative tutorial. It's just what I was looking for. I seem to have a problem. I follow exactly what you do, but when I click on RUN, I get an error "102", and a file is created in the test folder with a XMP extension. Could you maybe help me with this? I tried a JPG file and a nef file.
