The first time I gave was back in high school. Now I am in college and closing in on my 3rd gallon. I am O negative, the universal donor, and motivated to help save the lives of people I may never meet. Red Cross is a wonderful group, when you consider blood donation is only one of it many programs. I am currently under going their disaster relief training programs. It is amazing to see first hand how much difference Red Cross makes in helping of others.
Fruits like appricots and orange juice, juices with vitamin c. ect... Dont drink alot of caffine, this will bring your blood pressure up. Its good to take ur temp. that day to rule out a temp. Make sure u eat something before you give so u dont feel sick. Drink lots of water the night before to ensure that they can find a vein.
I dont think ppl know how to prpare for blood so when they go to give they either have High blood pressure, low iron, or high temp. when you go to give: Eat foods high in iron: meats like fish, chicken, shrimp, pork ect.. Do not drink tea, It keeps the iron from absorbing.
After i gave i felt wonderful! I saved 3 lives!without going into the military! I was a little sleepy the next day , but knowing i saved 3 lives made me want to come back! When it was time to give again. I couldnt. My iron was too low. Im not giving up. Going to try this tues:)
The first time i went to give blood i was scared.I thought, will it hurt? will i pass out? I went to give and they told me my pulse was too high as well as my temp.I was so upset, i wasnt sure i would have the nerve to do it again.I wasnt going to give up.I went back. Everything was good,I layed there getting ready for them to take itand i started crying. They had to pull the needle out. I couldnt give. Try 3,My iron was too low.couldnt give. try 4.Everything looked great! I could give!
