Thank you, I'm glad someone noticed. It was hard to find all those proper jet movements to match his hand gestures. It was the biggest challenge in making this video.

Theirs one big HUGE difference... Animation... Which video was drawn, either by computer or hand and which video was actually shot by following the war planes?? There's no comparassion in my opinion, Top guns dogfights were shot live, doesn't matter if they pieced scenes together out of it, it was all real. Macross is really neat, it just doesn't stand a chance in Top Gun's class.

There are actually a lot of differences between the two movies. Even the competition between the two jet fighters in Macross Plus is of a different nature. I simply took something a critic had once said about Macross Plus, and made a video of it.

When it comes down to it, Macross Plus was a much better story with better acting, LOL. I love Top Gun but I have to admit for the roster of talented actors they had, it was the worst performance of their lives.

I like the idea of the comparison and the sync between the movie and the animation parts. Loved the part, around minute 4, where the animation guy is twisting his hand and then the jet in the movie manouvers the same way.

Haven't seen Top Gun, but have seen Macross Plus. Seeing this though, my only reaction to it afterwards could be summed up with a "YES! YES!", M. Bison style. Well done.

Actually, the mecha designer and director of the Macross franchise, Shoji Kawamori, designed toys for the Diaclone series during the 80s which would later become the Transformers. He also went on to design the Masterpiece version of Starscream for the Takara toy company and also designed the Hybrid Style version of Convoy (aka Optimus Prime).

One of the best mashups I've ever seen. Macross Plus and Top gun was the perfect choice. The stories are somewhat similar.

Around 1:40, if that isn't a Top Gun moment I don't know what is. All that was needed in Macross was a Goose character saying, "Holy Shit, we're going head to head I can not believe this shit."
