On Saturday, December 5, approximately 40 students, about equally divided between Carver Military Academy, and Olive-Harvey College, joined Field Museum CEEP staff and community volunteers in a guided walk through the site, in which they learned ways to can take care of Calumet Forest Preserves, why preservation practitioners do what they do, and participated in removing invasive plant species. A lunch was provided, and smores were cooked over a bonfire built from the scraps of cut invasives. Calumet Environmental Education Program Stewardship Coordinator, Laura Milkert, hosted the event at Beaubien Woods.
