This red brick Ontario house + apartment wants you! Buy now before interest rates rise and HST is in.

Funky and sturdy, 109 year old red brick Victorian storey-and-a-half house on best street in small Ontario town of famous organic growers & farmers - Michael Schmidt's raw milk cowshare cooperative - bakers, artisans, and of course, hockey!

House has all new windows, high efficiency forced air gas furnace, new electric water heater just waiting for solar assistance to reduce your energy costs, new fridge, stove, new electrical panel w/ minor electrical upgrades suggested. Needs new roofing, some masonry pointing and trim painting, but no leaks, good dry basement and cement foundation. On town water and sewer.

This cool old house on a quiet, leafy residential street is only 1 block from 2 beaches, dams, playgrounds, Saugeen Conservation Park w/ hiking & cross-country trails, fishing, caves, and camping for your out-of-town friends or relatives. Town has thriving cottage industries, tourism growth, small hospital and medical clinic, 2 elementary schools and the country's most affordable rural "Waldorf-inspired", truly funky private school. The region hosts a notable barter and trading community, and the immediate neighbourhood hosts an internationally known small community art gallery and vibrant arts and music scenes - the annual Words Aloud Spoken Word Festival, Durham's own notable Festival of Fringe Film, an annual Black History and Geneological Conference, and the Michael Schmidt-sponsored summer musical and gastronomic delights of "Symphony in the Barn".

The town of Durham, in the municipality of West Grey, is in commuting distance to small urban centres - Owen Sound 35 min. north, or the town of Hanover 15 min. to the west. It is nestled 2 hrs NW of Toronto, just west of the Beaver Valley and Georgian Triangle, midway between Guelph and the Bruce Peninsula's gateway to Manitoulin Island. Small town charm with small town cost of living, along with clean air, clean industry, stars filling the dark night sky, and homegrown arts and culture. Perfect for supported or co-op living, extended family, or great setting for your home business or studio.

Riverfront lots directly across the street sell for over $90,000, while new homes on the same lots sell for $350,000! House is 1749 sq.ft, Lot is 10,000 sq.ft. Current taxes are $1400. Appraised in 2007 at $126,000 - Buy it as is now for $119,000 or negotiable if I do the roof.

  • Great job Oonah!

We spent the summer in this house last year.

It's in a quiet neighborhood a stone's throw from the Conservation area (swimming, camping, fishing, hiking, etc) and walking distance to a quaint downtown core. Someone's going to be happy here.
