Basically a preamp takes the very low output of the microphone, and amplifies it to a level that your recording equipment can work with. Different preamps have slightly different sound characters. Some attempt to be totally transparent, others have their own sound. The preamps in most low cost interfaces will work just fine, however use of an external pre amp will usually give a cleaner sound, but only really noticeable if the rest of your recording chain is high quality too.

No, you can use the Genesis with any good mic pre, or direct into a console. Of course if you want to record direct into your computer you will need a suitable interface.

@LilBake305 Hi Yes- One way is to 1. set up the camera and start rolling 2. roll on the audio pro tools etc on the other side of the glass 2. clap infront of the camera and both microphones on the camera as well as the mic at the same time 3. film it 4. import video into pro tools 4. visually sync by the wave forms 5. adjust the audio by nudging it until it sounds like one with no delay----

@novanine9 Yep there are a few different ways one is to clap infront of the camera and mic at the same time (you can use a slate) another way is after the fact- If you are using pro tools for example you can import your video into pro tools and sync it by lining up the recording with the video audio tracks....you have to play with it until they are both insync then export the video in pro tools-

I have done this before. you will need a clapper to mark the sync point. then sync it up in post production.

This mic seems to favor male vocals more then females. Just my observation.

or is the console outs going into your video cam?
