~20 pop-its, unwrapped and poured into one napkin, rewrapped, and thown. The explosion was so much more impressive irl.

Just as a side note, I kept taking one or two of those little rocks and throwing them at the ground, but they wouldn't explode. In the end, I failed to determine exactly what explodes when they're thrown.

Are the rocks really some sort of super-concentrated lower-grade explosive? Are the little clear crystals I saw exploding due to the friction of the rocks?

The world may never know.

  • um... u dooo no that is much louder if u doit alone with one. its only louder if its like 3 whole boxes

  • Sounded like a gunshot as close as I was. My camera (and, I believe, most cameras) do a good job of equalizing the sound.

Admittedly, it did sounded pretty whimpy in the video.

  • i looked but i live in paterson and i cant find any

  • @vlorafan12 you buy popits from the dollar store

  • actually each little rock or piece of sand is coated in impact-sensitive silver fulminate (AgONC) when they rock against each other that reacts and thus fully causing an explosion
