Victory1: Two dead in Dubai Victory Team powerboat crash - فيكتوري 1

The Class 1 Dubai Grand Prix was called off after two pilots of one of the leading powerboats were killed in a high-speed crash Friday.

Victory 1 lost control, flipped and landed upside down, killing UAE driver Mohammed Majid Al Muhairi and French throttleman Jean-Marc Sanchez during race one of the final round of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.

Muhairi, 34, was the European Class One champion in 2009, while 48-year-old Sanchez was part of the 2007 World Class One champion team.

The duo was airlifted to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Al Muhairi and Sanchez were eight points behind Fazza 3 for the world title and hoping to overturn the deficit with victory on Saturday.

no one mentioned how they died (instantly or drowned). If they died instantly then sad but nothing one could do..however, if they drowned then i am very pissed...extremely!!

It's astounding that people who know absolutely nothing about class one or the sport of powerboat racing in general, feel the need to comment and criticise the sport and the rescue teams. Whilst safety in marine sports has come on leaps and bounds since the early days there's still an element of risk.

that looked pretty instant to me, the water force would of probably snapped there necks taking them out instantly but i wouldn't be surprised if one of them lived for an extra minute before drowning.

what exactly happened? im not familiar with the sport. but it looks like they start to go airborne and they just go lifeless before impacting the water, but they don't seem to yell or anything before going lifeless, its like they just die. Can someone fill me in? I saw something about paralysis from deceleration maybe?
