being egyptian, i have to say, being brought up - none of my peers or social circle had been circumcised, its something i started to hear about from the maids and workers at high school n such. was a big shocker to me. i think its mostly practiced in working class and uneducated ppl. cause i have to say - none of the girls at my school or uni had been circumcised.

No no, FGM is a cultural issue, not a religious one. Islam, from what I have researched, does not agree with fgm and it's 'values' because it is altering what God created for no good reason. At least, that's what I have come to understand after taking a few religion classes...
