De Jeugd heeft de Toekomst

Begin 2010 zond "Vrienden van de Olifant" de filmploeg van "Augustijn Video Productions" weer naar Kenia, om vast te leggen hoe de weesjes het nu maken. Oude bekenden als Wendi zijn gegroeid of zelfs ontwikkeld tot Matriarch. Nieuwe weesjes worden geïntroduceerd, zoals de kleine Shukuru. Aan de peetouders wordt een blik gegund in en om de opvang van Sheldrick in Nairobi, Voi en Ithumba. De ervaren verzorgers geven uitgebreid uitleg over de nieuwkomers en natuurlijk is uw gastvrouw Dr Dame Daphne Sheldrick. Vurig verwoordt zij haar betrokkenheid na ruim 50 jaar ervaring met olifanten. De kleine Maalim, de zeldzame zwarte neushoorn, is gegroeid en weet zich goed te weren in de bush. Onverwachte bezoekers aan de Trust in Nairobi en Ithumba zorgen zowel voor spectakel, als wel voor sympathie. De prachtige omgeving waarin de weesjes opgroeien is zeldzaam, zeker na de regens. Hoe loopt de kidnapping van een olifant af? Hoe weten de wezen zich te handhaven op de steile rotsen? Hoe baden zij zich rumoerig in de mudpool en meten zij hun krachten? En welk weesje blijft buiten alle aandacht in Ithumba? Early 2010 "Friends of the Elephant" again sent out the film crew of "Augustijn Video Productions" to Kenya, to capture how the orphans are doing now. Old acquaintances like Wendi are grown and even became the Matriarch. New orphans are introduced, like the little Shukuru. The foster parents are shown a glance in the Sheldrick units in Nairobi, Voi and Ithumba. Experienced keepers explain the background of newcomers and of course your host is Dr Dame Daphne Sheldrick. Passionately she talks about her experience with elephants after over 50 years. Little Maalim, the rare black Rhino, is grown and are quite capable of taking himself in the bush. Unexpected visitors to the Trust in Nairobi and Ithumba, cause quite some commotion, as well as sympathy. The delightful surroundings in which the orphans are growing up is unique. Especially after the rains. How will kidnapping an elephant end? How do they survive on the steep rock formations? How do they noisily occupy the mud pool and test their strength? And which orphan is secretly kept in Ithumba? The film is a "must" for anyone who cannot get enough of the film "Friends of the Elephant" annually distribute amongst the foster parents.
