This is really helpful. I think I'll take an anatomy class at some point. After watching you draw this, I'm realizing that I have a lot of flaws in the anatomy of the men that I draw. Is there anything you'd recommend by way of learning to better my anatomy and shading/use of values other than classes and practice?

interesting take on the small heroic head. Thanks for uploading the video!

Hail Daarken! Hah, it is kinda funny that u paint more realistic and more logical poses and figures when u r not actully trying to make them realistic. I've watched all your vids and now i recall how easily u used to change the poses in the undead priest video for example. Just think that you work best when u give freedom to your imagination and dont pay that much attention to the "natural realistic look" DOnt wanna insult you, actually i am trying to do the opposite :D You ARE the man ;)

thanks for the reply i actually ended up mapping those to the photoshop action since starting to draw digitally i had troubles drawing certain lines and i figured rotating the canvas even clock wise would help me like in real life when drawing on paper... thanks daakren!
so from which side the light is coming from? i don't get :(

@Augis3210 I'm mainly just using an ambient light source, so there isn't really a strong directional lighting scheme. My main focus was to just show how to paint male anatomy from imagination and not so much on lighting.

Hi daarken, I'm a beginner illustrator from Mexico and I love your technique, Its really fluent and natural. Question:
I am using the same brush you use in this tutorial but, i get a scratchy look at my image, like there are many layers of painting in my values. Your values look like solid blocks, obviously this helps the construction of the forms. How do you achive this? Are there any special brush settings you use?
U are very kind showing your techniques and process. HUGE FAN OF YOU.

@MrRuba1 Make sure your flow and opacity on the top bar are set to 100%. Under brush controls I only have opacity jitter set to pen pressure. Other than that, I don't have any special settings.

what is the short cut for transform horizontal or vertical for ps? i see you have it on the fly?
migpim 10 months ago
@migpim Do you mean flip vertical/horizontal? To flip my canvas horizontally I have it set to command + f. You can create your own shortcuts by going to edit - keyboard shortcuts.
