Miami jumps out to a 17-0 lead over unbeaten and top ranked Nebraska, via two touchdown passes from Bernie Kosar to tight end Glenn Dennison, after big receptions from Stanley Shakespeare and Eddie Brown.

"The unknown quantity has an awful lot of quality," -- NBC's John Brodie.

  • was nice when all the bowl games were played in one day & by midnight on the same night you knew who the national champion was...

Couldn't agree more. Dominoes falling everywhere. Most exciting day of the year. I spent the morning of this game desperately rooting for Georgia to upset Texas in the Cotton Bowl, allowing Miami a chance to play for itself against Nebraska. Now it can't unfold that way. I can't believe anyone prefers the current setup.

  • @volvo4377 You will NEVER see a #5 team with a chance to win it all on New Year's Day anymore. Now we have to wait for January 10th or so to watch two teams predetermined by computer playing for a trophy. I'd rather go back to this kind of New Year's Day free-for-all than see a playoff in college football.
